Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 after Jim Disbrow and Scott Lowery moved from Buffalo, New York, to Kent, Ohio. Unable to find authentic Buffalo-style chicken wings in their new town, they decided to open up their own restaurant. Originally called Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck (see Kummelweck) from which the abbreviation BW3 was created, the restaurant became a franchise with over 360 locations across most states of the U.S. The franchise is expected to expand to nearly 1,000 locations in the next few years. The company later changed its name to Buffalo Wild Wings and no longer uses the short name BW3, though many of its patrons still refer to it as such. The restaurant's theme is a sports bar / restaurant, and each location features multiple large screen televisions that are viewable from all seats. All locations also feature Buzztime, a network which features various games. Buffalo Wild Wings is best-known for its buffalo wings with 14 signature sauces. In late February 2006 they eliminated two sauces, Smokey Southwestern and Thai, and added Honey BBQ, Parmesan Garlic, Asian Zing, and Mango Habanero, increasing the number of sauces from 12 to 14. They also have a full menu featuring salads, appetizers, burgers, and specialty items. The "Blazin' Challenge" is offered by Buffalo Wild Wings to patrons who can finish 12 of the hottest wings offered in less than 6 minutes. The rules are no drinking water or touching of the face. For customers that can complete the challenge, a t-shirt is given. The t-shirt comes wrapped in a tiny package shaped as a flame and is thus very wrinkly until washed. If controversy surrounds a participant's performance (such as not finishing in time or leaving too much meat on the bones) it is common for the waiter/waitress to not give a t-shirt and take the person's name and phone number down until a manager reviews.
